§ 2-46. Mayor pro tem.

  • At the first meeting of the city council after the induction of the newly elected councilmen and/or mayor, the city council shall elect one (1) of the councilmen mayor pro tem, who shall hold his office for one (1) year. If for any reason the mayor is absent from the city, sick or unable to perform his duties of office the mayor pro tem shall act as mayor during such absence or disability and shall possess all the powers and perform all the duties of the mayor. In the absence of both the mayor and the mayor pro tem from any meeting of the city council, the city secretary or any member of the city council shall call the city council to order, after which a mayor protem shall be immediately elected and the business shall be proceeded with as indicated in subsection 2-47(f).
