§ 16-27. Definitions.

  • The purpose of this article the following terms, phrases, and their derivations shall have the meaning given in this section:

    Authorized private receptacle shall mean a litter storage and collection receptacle as required and authorized by this chapter.

    Garbage shall mean putrescible animal and vegetable wastes resulting from the handling, preparation, cooking or consumption of food.

    Litter shall mean garbage, refuse and rubbish as defined in this section and all other waste material which, if thrown or deposited as prohibited in this article, tends to create a danger to public health, safety and welfare.

    Refuse shall mean all putrescible and nonputrescible solid wastes (except body wastes), including garbage, rubbish, ashes, street cleanings, dead animals, abandoned automobiles and solid market and industrial wastes.

    Rubbish shall mean nonputrescible solid wastes consisting of both combustible and noncombustible wastes, such as paper, wrappings, cigarettes, cardboard, cans, yard clippings, wood, glass, bedding, crockery and similar materials.
